Before you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
Before God formed me. Before I was born. He set me apart and appointed me. Not just me, but you too. For what? To be a prophet to the nations.
What does that mean? A prophet is a person regarded as an inspired teacher or proclaimer of the will of God. In other words, a person who shares the message God has given them with others.
As I ponder what those words mean I realize that God has a plan in place for each of us. Before the beginning of time, He already knew what He needed for us to do. He has called us, all of us, to be prophets.
Sometimes we struggle with that word called. We find ourselves asking lots of questions. Questions like why? How? Like Moses, we make up all kinds of excuses. I can’t speak. I can’t write. I don’t have time. I don’t have the education I need. I need to get ready first. Yes, we have all kinds of excuses.
Here’s something I have learned about God. When He has a plan, He will be faithful to complete it. (Philippians 1:6) This is not always true when we come up with our own schemes.
The words of the prophet Jeremiah, assure us that God has a plan. They also tell us that part of God’s plan is for us to share (proclaim) the message He has given us. The message we share is always intended to glorify God, to point others to Jesus Christ.
Our stories will be different, but the message will always be the same. From that message others will see God as a good and faithful Father. They will see how He heals, provides, comforts, redeems, and guides. They will discover how much He loves them and will want to know Him better. They will come to call Him Savior and friend.
When you think about it, that’s a pretty awesome assignment. One we need to take seriously.
Is your life a testimony to God’s faithfulness? A wise woman once told me that you could not have a testimony without a test. Have you experienced a test and now you can share that victory with others? Has God done something incredible in your life so that you can use that example to give someone else hope?
God teaches us extraordinary lessons that He wants us to share with others. What has God taught you? How have you shared it?
What are you waiting for? Now is the time that you need to embrace the call God has for you. Start sharing your story today. God will use you to change lives.
God has great expectations of His children. We need to have great expectations of our God.
