I remember when my mom bought our first set of encyclopedias. I was about eleven. I loved those books and can still remember how they felt in my hands. I used to pour over the pages reading about places I would probably never go and things I couldn’t do and didn’t always understand. I was awestruck.
That feeling returned when I picked up Dennis Hensley’s latest book, Finding Success with your Dream Writing Projects. It was like picking up an encyclopedia, A thru Z, all rolled into one. Every writer, especially those who dream of writing, should get a copy of this book and not just read it, but memorize it.
I don’t profess to be a writer, although I find myself writing more and more these days. “Doc” Hensley’s book inspired me, no, it challenged me to be a writer, a better writer, all while showing me how to do it.
Hensley is a master story teller. This makes the book all the easier to absorb. And you learn through his stories and personal experiences. Add to this his many years of writing experience and what you get is a treasure chest of valuable tips that will help you develop techniques to improve your writing skills. He doesn’t stop there. He includes great advice on marketing and publicity.
Like every good teacher, Hensley starts at the beginning, getting you “Off to a Great Start.” From there he takes you on the grand tour of writing, covering such topics as, Tips for Terrific Technique, Getting Unstuck, The Nitty Gritty of Fiction, Develop a Support Team, ending the tour with Here’s to Your Success. When you finish the last line of his book you feel, no, you believe, that you can do it.
My advice to you is “Get this book.” If you take the tools Dennis Hensley shares and put them to use you too will be, Finding Success with your Dream Writing Projects.
