“Saturday mornings were Stacy Broussard’s escape, especially when life slapped her with stress. No better way to unwind from the week than to ride her quarter horse on Houston’s airport trail and enjoy nature.”
From the opening sentence, I was right there with her. Who doesn’t struggle with stress and riding was always one of my favorite pastimes. DiAnn Mills has the gift, the gift of grab, the ability to grab the reader and engage them from the very first paragraph.
DiAnn Mills is a master at creating riveting, fast-paced adventure filled with faith overtones and inspirational thoughts. Her writing is crisp and well researched. The complex plot deals with relevant issues such as terrorism, health emergencies, drones and death. We are faced with the question; how much is mere coincidence or is it part of a carefully orchestrated plot?
Deadly Encounter paints the picture of a woman, Stacy Broussard, strong and capable, concerned about her community and determined to make life better for the twelve-year old boy who lives across the street. Like many of us Stacy struggles with balance in her life and family relationships. In the end her perseverance and determination pay off, notwithstanding numerous challenges along the way.
Woven throughout the pages are the hints of blossoming romance. Tall, handsome FBI agents have become a trademark in many of Mills’ novels. Deadly Encounter is no exception.
Time for true confessions. I am a fan, a huge fan of DiAnn Mills. Over the years, I have read most of her police dramas. Her previous three-book series include Call of Duty, FBI Houston, and Crime Scene Houston. I’ve also read a few of her historical romance novels. My favorite was and is Under a Desert Sky, set in New Mexico and conceived when DiAnn spent time at the Ghost Ranch teaching for the CLASS Writers Conference.
Deadly Encounter is the first of Mills’ new FBI Task Force series. I can’t wait to read the next.
