How does your personality shape your relationship with God? Does it?
Today I am part of the training team at Advanced Personality Training. Men and women from around the world have gathered to learn more about the personalities and how to help others understand who God created them to be. It is a privilege to be able to share with them the many concepts that we have learned over the years.
One of the sessions that always draws a lot of discussion is the spiritual personality. Today was no different. When teaching this material, we always refer to the book, Come As You Are. It seemed appropriate that today I would share with you my thoughts on this book.
For many years, I felt trapped by guilt when my quiet time did not work. I had followed all the formulas but at the end of my hour, I often felt unfulfilled and discouraged. Then I discovered Betty and Marita’s book. It helped me understand that there is no pat formula for your relationship with God. Who says it must be an hour? Do I really have to read the Bible in a year?
Come As You Are was first released in 1999. It has become a standard in our Personality Training Workshop and many of us still use the material today in leading workshops and retreats focusing on spiritual formation.
Using the foundation of the well-known teaching on the Personalities, authors Southard and Littauer will help you understand that God makes each person with a specific personality that plays a powerful role in building a relationship with Him. Come As You Are will not only give you a greater understanding of how you personally can grow closer to God, but also how you can accept the different spiritual styles of others.
You no longer need to feel guilty or confused. I encourage you to get a copy of this book and read it. Take you pen and underline the parts that speak specifically to you. Highlight the suggestions that you feel will work for you.
Turn your Pursuit of God into a Joy!
