As of the moment I began writing this review there had been 830, 089 legal abortions reported in the U.S. That’s more than the entire population of the state of Alaska, or North Dakota, or Wyoming. It is estimated that an abortion occurs somewhere in the world every 30 seconds. These are staggering statistics that should provoke us all to think.
These statistics represent more than a lost life. They represent a woman, a man, a family that are impacted by the decision to abort.
Imagine the lingering after effects women suffer after having an abortion. Guilt, shame, anger, anxiety, depression, sense of loss, repression and/or suppression are but a few of the feelings that will plague a woman who has struggled through the difficult decision of abortion for years. Feelings that can impact her life and the life of others.
Susan Swafford dealt with these feelings for years before Jesus broke through the guilt and shame, through the pain, to reveal His unconditional love. Broken from Silence is the first-hand account of that breakthrough.
This book is more than just a Bible study designed to help women be set free from the guilt and shame of abortion. It is the very personal account of one woman’s journey and how with the help of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, she completed the journey to experience victory. Now her passion is to help other women do the same.
In her book, Swafford talks about understanding the character of God. This is a key component on the pathway to wholeness. The book includes chapters on the downward spiral, the bitter root, forgiveness and the time to mourn. All necessary as we strive to experience freedom in Christ.
These are not easy topics. However, the author leads the reader through passage after passage of scripture to demonstrate the truth and the character of our Savior.
Broken from Silence is designed to be a journey of healing for those who suffer from the guilt and shame of abortion. Through her personal story, Susan Swafford leads women to find the strength, healing and hope that can only be found in Christ. This thought provoking study books helps women to understand the character of God, who they are in Christ, the healing power of forgiveness, and the truth that will set them free and enable them to be Broken from Silence.
